My husband was admitted after a medical emergency from Piedmont Emergency Center to Piedmont Hospital in Rock Hill. The hospital rooms are old, poorly maintained and unsanitary. I saw dust balls, cobwebs and accumulated dirt in the corners of his room and lady bug nests were falling from the overhead light fixture into his bed. An old unused monitor was pushed to the corner of the room collecting dust. They had one doctor on call for all patients so he waited 24+ hrs. to see a doctor who had no information related to his test results. Day 2, I called to check on my husband and the floor nurse gave the phone to the wrong male patient. She was too casual about making this mistake and this furthered my belief of Piedmonts carelessness. The staff does not demonstrate thorough care for patients and were unable to answer my questions about his treatment, medicine or his condition. When I asked the floor nurse how was he doing she said to me and my son "ask the patient he will tell you." I told her I'm asking her professional opinion and was immediately unimpressed with her lack of concern, and lack of knowledge regarding his condition. Her response was rude and insensitive. Another nurse was taking his temperature and since he went in with a fever I asked her what was his previous temperature and she replied "I don't know." I had to ask her to check his chart which she should have done prior to taking his temperature to gain a perspective as to rather or not he was improving. Other typical responses when I asked about his status and his care was "I just started my shift and I don't know." They made little to no attempt to relate to me or his son during out visits. We were told by front desk security guard we could not bring food to my husband; only to find out later that families and patients at Piedmont Rock Hill order outside food delivery all of the time because their food is poor quality; thus my husband was not eating well nor was he getting proper nutrition. Day 3 we insisted to bring him home so we could manage post op care with his primary care doctor.
For these reasons, we will never go back to any Piedmont facility.
