Dr. Nona Patterson is a clinical psychologist with over 25 years experience helping adults and adolescents resolve problems, improve relationships and achieve important life goals.
She has worked with a wide range of issues. Her areas of special interest include working with adults undergoing emotional distress (depression, anxiety, fear and anger), relationship difficulties (getting along with spouse, family, friends or co-workers), adjustment to a change in one's life (loss of a loved one, separation/divorce, change in health status or work.) In addition, she has a special interest in working with individuals with weight management issues, both in individual and group therapy.
She works with her clients to identify goals that will help them to better their lives by improving their personal relationships, managing anxiety and/or depression and develop effective coping skills. She helps clients make meaningful and necessary changes for overall increased life satisfaction. She utilizes a cognitive behavioral approach - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Dr. Patterson earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. She completed her doctoral internship at Broughton State Hospital and Cleveland County Mental Health Center. She earned her Masters and undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of the Pacific. She has been in private practice since 1992. She was on staff in the Adult Outpatient Department at Carolinas Medical Centers, Center for Mental Health for three years prior to entering private practice.
