We have been taking our "furry family of four" to Banfield since March 2008. Dr. Dunning and Dr. Matthews were both wonderful vets. However, since they both left, Banfield's service has suffered.

They claim to be Banfield - The Pet "Hospital." In May 2011, we encountered a case of Pyometra with our lab. She almost died and the only thing Banfield - The Pet "Hospital" did was take $250 worth of x-rays and refer us to an actual pet hospital. We had an absolutely amazing experience at Veterinary Referral Hospital of Hickory and I am happy to report our lab is doing well now.

However, Banfield didn't even follow-up to see if our lab lived. I went back to Banfield 10 days after surgery to discuss special food for our lab (sensitive post-surgery stomach), since Banfield was our regular vet. Two different Banfield staff told me that because they didn't perform the surgery, they wouldn't be able to talk to me about our dog's food. I explained that the vet ER that performed the surgery is not a regular vet office. After complaining that Banfield is our dog's regular vet, and two office staff storming away from the front desk, a third staff member wrote us an Rx for sensitive stomach dog food.

I have paid over $5,000 to Banfield since taking our furry family to this Hickory location 3 years ago. Originally, with Dr. Dunning and Dr. Matthews, the service was great. Since they have left, the quality of care is no longer satisfactory and the staff seem to have a general uncaring attitude about our pet's well-being.

I am pleased to learn that Dr. Matthews, vet previously at Banfield in Hickory NC) has opened a new vet hospital and many of the previous, wonderful staff from Banfield have gone to this new location. I have already re-located our services to this new clinic. I will never take another of our furry family to the Hickory NC Banfield.
