Veterinary Specialty Center is Southern Colorado's only board certified specialists in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, dental, pain management and anesthesiology. We also offer physical therapy and emergency services.
Veterinary specialists are Board Certified Specialists. Veterinary specialists complete three to four years of additional training after graduating from veterinary school. The most common specialty fields are surgery and internal medicine. Other areas of specialty include anesthesiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, cardiology and neurology, just to name a few. Following advanced training, credentials must be submitted to the specific specialty group, such as American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS), American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), etc. After preliminary criteria have been met, the individuals must pass a multi-day examination. Once the individuals pass the examination they become members or diplomates of that group and are considered to be board certified.
