I have been a licensed psychologist, practicing psychotherapist and college professor for more than 30 years. In that time, I have talked to many people about their lives, what has happened to them and been done to them. We have discussed what they have done along with their most intimate feelings, their regrets, frustrations, anxieties, or fears, their successes and hopes, failures, illness, and losses. Together, my clients and I have sought solutions, strategies and actions to bring them closer to their aspirations and goals. Sometimes, self-knowledge and understanding are all that are necessary. Other times, specific protocols and direct instructions that are part of well-constructed, and thoroughly tested treatment practices are extremely useful. Which approach will work best for you? That’s what you and I need to determine.
ServicesMy practices are founded on psychological science and decades of clinical experience. Generally, I support practices that are known today as evidenced-based treatments because they have been supported by real world application. Those treatments typically include cognitive-behavioral therapies and other interventions that have been shown effective. However, many events in life cannot be classified so easily, and have not been as thoroughly researched as we might prefer. For such situations, we have to rely on my professional knowledge and clinical experience, and your knowledge and experience to find appropriate solutions. Most of all, psychotherapy is about talking cooperatively, with mutual trust and honesty.
