East Brainerd Oral Surgery opened in 2010 when Dr Bill Childress and Dr. Karl Meyer both retired from the US Air Force after 21-plus year careers each. Both doctors completed residencies in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery while in the Air Force, during which they received their Medical degrees from University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio.
Had oral surgery in November. Had a great experience with the doctor (with Dr. Meyer) and nurses but had a terrible experience with the billing. When estimate was provided, they did not look at my coverage maximum which resulted in the office billing me for the difference. In addition to this, I was billed for a service they told me would be at no charge (they even filed a claim for the no charge item with my insurance). The office eventually removed the no charge line item. I contacted my insurance company, and they had no record of them calling to create my estimate but I was told by my insurance representative that had the office looked at my account online, my coverage maximum was visible on my account and I had no other claims, so there should not have been confusion. When I called to discuss with the office manager, she told me that the overage was not unreasonable (any overage is unreasonable in my opinion) and I then asked to speak to her manager - she told me they would be in contact within 72 hours but I did not hear back. I assumed the issue had been resolved but nope - I just I received another bill. I then called back again, and left a voicemail - no call back. I then called back again a week later, and finally talked to the office manager's supervisor who told me that she did not think $100 difference was unreasonable and that she sent me a letter. Currently, at the advice of my insurance company, I have filed a member grievance and they are investigating. Long story short, I wouldn't use these guys unless you enjoy chasing after answers and paying more than they tell you you'll pay.
I was referred to East Brainerd Oral Surgery by my regular dentist to do a sinus lift. When I called scheduled for a consultation quickly, then scheduled for the procedure within two days. Dr. Childress performed my sinus lift. I was offered sedation for the procedure, but I declined as I have rarely found any procedure to be that painful. Dr. Childress was wonderful to work with; he was professional and had a great 'bedside manner.' I would definitely use this practice again, if needed.
