My husband and I had the awful task of taking our much-loved 11+ year old cat to the vet to receive news that she has cancer - almost certainly terminal. We had just moved to Seminole the day before from five hours away - where we had taken our cat TWICE to two different vets where she was TWICE misdiagnosed as having a simple respiratory infection and given antibiotics. Her health continued to decline. Dr. Muennink has such extensive experience with cats that as soon as he gently examined her abdomen and noted other obvious (to him) signs, he was able to tell us right then what was happening. He was straightforward and did not beat around the bush in telling us her prognosis, yet he was understanding and compassionate. He took his time and explained our options - which were, sadly, limited. I was in tears and told him I did NOT want her to suffer at all and I asked him point-blank what HE would do if she were HIS cat. He did not hesitate to tell me that she was not suffering pain right now and that he did NOT feel it was time to euthanize her yet. However, he was direct in telling me that she would almost certainly not survive surgery at this stage - that neither surgery nor chemotherapy would be effective in treating her condition, but would rather more likely only serve to make what time she DID have left with us far more painful for everyone involved. He said that when she stopped eating (which she still hasn't) or showed signs of difficulty breathing or getting around to just bring her back to him and he would understand that we had decided it was time to let her go and that he would make things as easy as possible for her. While I'm still heartbroken knowing we won't have her much longer, I'm terribly grateful to Dr. Muennink for finally figuring out what was wrong and his kind treatment of us and our little cat. The reason I am writing such a lengthy review is because I've read some other somewhat negative reviews of this clinic on other sites and wanted to be sure our positive experience with the clinic and Dr. Muennink - even though the diagnosis was unpleasant - was also available for people to see. It is very frightening to be in a new place where you know nothing about ANY vet in the area and a beloved pet is seriously ill - and you basically have to hope for the best from glancing at a phone directory. Personally, I feel that the way a doctor of any sort deals with the worst case scenario when it presents itself to him or her is a huge measure of the professionalism and character of that doctor...and I left the clinic feeling like Dr Muennink, while not sugar-coating our situation, was very kind and truly empathized with us. And that's what I want in a vet who takes care of my pets.
