Sharon Ducker, Nationally certified Sports Therapist

Sharon Ducker is a Nationally Certified Sports Massage therapist with advanced training in several modalities. Sharon went to school in 1999 at the Healing Touch Institute where she graduated at the top of her class. After completing her education the school was so impressed with her skills that they asked her to stay on and teach their hands on classes which she did for 6 months. After leaving the school Sharon went on to take classes in Myofascial Release and soon after Neuromuscular Massage. Sharon loved injury work techniques so much that she went back to teach at another school for 9 years to share her advanced training with the new and upcoming therapists while continuing her training on the weekends.

In 2008 Sharon decided to fly to Tampa and take an advanced clinical sports class where she learned all the skills for helping those of us who have Plantar Fascitits, shin splints, carpal tunnel and other repetitive use injuries. It was in Tampa that she was lucky enough to do her part of her internship hours at the Yankee’s Training Camp where she worked on the new and upcoming players.

Recently she decided to get more training in medical massage injuries. This advanced training gave her the knowledge for whiplash and lower back injuries that occur in auto accidents. This training has now given her the title of Professional Medical Massage Practitioner. This allows her to take prescriptions from MD’s and Chiropractors to work on patients that have been injured in an auto accident and to be able to bill it out through the insured’s policy under PIP coverage.

Sharon has also gone on to be an approved provider for advanced massage workshops by the National Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworks , They are one of the accrediting boards for which all NH massage therapist are required to obtain licensure. She will be hosting workshops in our area sometime in March.

Sharon is excited to start working with the student population here in town and getting involved with the local sports teams. Sharon is open for business please stop in and say hello to Sharon and call for an appointment today at 617-281-2811. She is promoting a $15.OO off your first session with her.

What will the massage or bodywork feel like?

Swedish massage

is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Deep Tissue massage

is more pressure used by the therapist with either her thumbs, forearms, knuckles and elbows. The therapist will work within your tolerance of pressure. This type of massage is used for those who have a thicker muscle mass or who experienced the benefits of swedish massage and are looking to go the next step into a more therapeutic massage.

Neuromuscular massage

can range fro very light myofascial work to allow restrictions of the fascial tissue to release and relax to very deep work where trigger points will be held for 30 to 60 seconds, but again within the patients comfort level. This massage is used for injury work and postural corrections, there maybe ice, heat kinesio taping and cupping used during these sessions.
