Jaclyn Starritt was chosen as a court-ordered psychologist to help my daughter during a toxic custody situation between my ex-husband and I, in 2017. She was/is a protected therapist for my teen daughter, who had a history of manipulation by her father, with other therapists. Dr. Starritt was court ordered to not interfere/recommend custody; and her main job was to help facilitate peace between two homes. My daughter adamantly didn’t want to live with her father, and even worked with Dr. Starritt about what she would say if testifying in court. I wasn’t a part of the therapy unless asked to come in after a session, and surprisingly, many sessions were on this. Letters would be written but not sent, telling her father that she wanted to mostly live with me. This all came about when her father filed for full custody after I asked a few important things of him. He wanted me out of his parenting, out of my daughter’s life, ultimately. We share equal custody. (Supposed to, at least) In March of 2019, the tables turned drastically. My daughter left for a weekend with her father, and didn’t communicate with me. This came after I had serious concerns that I addressed to Dr. Starritt, which were written off as teenage issues. My daughter’s physician recommended that I attend the next session at Dr. Starritt’s office to find out more about the anxiety I was witnessing…it never happened. After innocently telling my ex husband of the suggestion, he immediately called an “emergency meeting” with Dr. Starritt the Monday after his weekend where I wasn’t able to talk to my daughter…I wasn’t notified about the meeting or given an opportunity to participate. Dr. Starritt let my 14 year old daughter send an email to me stating that she wanted more time with her father, and this time it wasn’t an exercise, it was sent to me. I was in complete shock. (Her reward at 14 1/2 was an Audi) All Dr. Starritt would tell me at first was that I needed to talk to my ex about it, and reminded me that my daughter was a teen. That meeting that she allowed without my knowledge or participation as an equal parent, facilitated parental alienation. My daughter’s phone and lap top was emailed back to me. Her father said that there “isn’t a custody arrangement” anymore. He was just “being dad.” And as soon as my daughter wanted to talk to me, he would bring her right to me. It will be 3 years in March that I haven’t had contact. Gifts are returned, emails about school or the pandemic are ignored. My parents were blocked from her life as well. If I had JUST had a heads up about what was going on by Dr. Starritt…if she had recognized the signs of parental alienation…I could have talked to my daughter and stopped this. I got “updates” from Dr. Starritt about my daughter as I was begging for help, with short one line messages like, “(daughter’s name) is doing well in school. There’s nothing more I have to report right now.” It was/is my worst nightmare. I’m a stage 4 metastatic cancer patient missing out on valuable years with my daughter because of this doctor’s inability to recognize a very narcissistic parent beginning to alienate his child from her mother. I was told by my ex husband to go change myself, go to therapy every week..learn how to have patience…in order to see my child. I was frantic. Dr. Starritt took no responsibility for not trying to talk to us all, not notifying me of the “meeting.” She ruined my life with my child. We were there to get help from her, not be separated. Parental alienation is real and terrible. And this doctor doesn’t recognize it at all. She’s more interested in getting the child to trust her, like a friend; than to honor a judge’s custody order. My therapist tried to reach out to her numerous times to discuss reunification, and nothing at all materialized. We actually spoke for months about me being “allowed” to send a simple birthday card. Starritt is a horrible advocate to use. I should have reported her for interfering with my custody order. My daughter graduates from high school this year. So many milestones I’m missing.
