About

Jim Harwood, P.T.

Jim Harwood, PT

Co-owner & Physical Therapist

A graduate of The Physical Therapy Program at Hunter College in 1994, Jim has been working in the field of physical therapy and osteopathic manual practice for over 16 years. Jim gained extensive clinical experience working at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in NYC in all areas of hospital-based therapy as well as providing lectures to corporate clients as part of the Mt. Sinai Corporate Wellness Program and collaborating with a team of medical professionals while treating clients at the Mt. Sinai Repetitive Strain Clinic.

While at Mt. Sinai, Jim completed a 5 year program in Osteopathic Manual Practice, attending the Canadian College of Osteopathy. The philosophy and methodology of osteopathy inspired Jim to open his practice to a more diverse client base; applying this unique approach combining osteopathic manual diagnoses and treatment with physical therapy rehabilitation has been beneficial for a wide array of symptoms and diagnoses, including: colic, birth trauma, and reflux in newborns; scoliosis, orthopedic issues and teeth disorders in teens and young adults; and joint pains, low back pain and TMJ in adults, to name a few.

“It is exciting to have a practice where at 9AM I am treating a 3 month-old baby having trouble with sucking and sleeping; then later in the day, advancing a lower back pain patient’s exercise program after releasing his stuck pelvis, while watching another therapist work with a spinal cord injured patient on the standing frame!”

This unique approach and philosophy is shared by his partner,
Maria Gerlich, and inspired their collaborative effort of opening
New York Physical Therapy in NYC in November of 2006.
