Therapy should be fun. It should invigorate you and let you feel happier while leaving than you did coming in. It should be something you look forward to, not something you push yourself to get through. My goal is for you to leave the sessions feeling lighter, more energized, and more enthusiastic about your future. My goal is to enthrive; and to help you do the same for yourself. Counseling is not an event or an appointment, but rather a skills session for your brain, to help it develop new methods of looking at the world and relating to it and other people.
ServicesUsing an approach that combines a Narrative Therapy philosophy with Cognitive Therapy techniques, I have developed a Positive Choice Therapy approach that views most mental health disorders as socially backed infectious disorders. By providing a safe environment for exploration and sharing, I learn about the background and triggers for the problem thoughts or behaviors and then I work with you to develop Interrupters, skills that stop the negative routines, whether mental or practical.
You'll experience a counselor that is warm, friendly and accepting of your situation. I try to develop fast, durable working relationships with my clients and then use this trust and connection to push back against the infectious disorder. I will actively confront the disorder's invasive thoughts and by using logic and deep understanding, will help you develop a new, more accurate and preferred way of thinking about a situation. These are your Preferred Cognitions or Positive Choice Thoughts. We then use these to practice challenging the negative thoughts and feelings, while validating your true self. The self you were before being infected and will be after you strengthen your skill at engaging with and ultimately rejecting the problem-flooded thinking that was troubling you.
