A cancer diagnosis, or even a suspicion of cancer, can be devastating to a person or their loved ones. As a gynecologic oncologist, I strive to provide compassionate and empathetic care and the most up-to-date treatment, which may include surgery or chemotherapy. Cancer care is a collaborative partnership between a patient and a doctor. I chose this field to positively impact patients' lives - to cure their condition if possible - but always extend both quality and length of life. When I can say to my patient, "You don't need a cancer doctor anymore!" my day is brightened, and I know the years of training are truly worth it. Many of my new patients are referred by my previous patients. I take that as a sign of trust. My patients tell me I am open and forthright in my communications and they appreciate my honesty.
