When I first meet with my patients, I give them as complete a picture as possible about the issue they are seeking help for. This includes detailed information about the affected anatomy, physiology and how the body works as a whole during the healing process. My goal is to provide clear information and expectations about a patient’s return of function after they have healed so that they can make informed decisions about their care. I want my patients to feel that they are being cared for with empathy and respect, and that they really understand their care and have a voice in the care they receive. I find that patients are most satisfied when they have a measure of control over their care.
