Dr. Johnston is a native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he received his medical education at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He served a Residency and Chief Residency at Vanderbilt University, where he was honored with the Vanderbilt House Staff Clinical Teaching Award. He subsequently was a Fellow in Cardiology at Emory University and remained at Emory as an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiology). He also served as Medical Director for the Center for Heart Failure Therapy at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and its subspecialty board of Cardiovascular disease. Dr. Johnston holds a fellowship with the American College of Cardiology, and his major clinical focus in practice is noninvasive cardiology, including nuclear cardiology, echocardiography, and congestive heart failure management. He has served as co-investigator for a number of investigational protocols.
