Prior to making the appt. I asked the office a lot of questions about their practice model including overbooking, wait times, etc. I was early for my 11am new patient appointment for an annual skin check. At 11:10am I asked how much longer of a wait it would be? The receptionist who had not bothered telling me the situation when I arrived only then told me the doctor was running late with an 'emergency'. I told her I couldn't imagine what type of emergency a dermatologist runs into during general office hours and the other receptionist, snapped, "we have emergencies all the time, this gentleman is elderly and needed to have something removed!" I replied, "as I said, this was not an emergency, it was you putting someone in my slot for removing a growth (nonemergency) while bumping me in the process, as if my time is not valuable. Additionally, I was thinking 'if he's elderly, he doesn't have to get back to work'. I asked her to check how long it would be and was told "let's aim for 11:30ish" as if I was then expected to be a willing partner in delaying my getting back to work. Turns out, this gentleman was seen 30 minutes before my appt. and if the doctor had bothered caring about my time, would have instructed her staff to notify pt. of delays. Had they done this, I could have remained at work instead of taking time off for nothing, Typical, the doctor's time and cramming too many patients into a slot is the focus. I said this was not acceptable and that I wanted my information deleted out of the EHR and would not be returning. The receptionist then said (in a condescending voice) "have a nice weekend". Instead of her embarrassing and ridiculing me as she intended to and to simply because I value my time, she showcased how little this office values their patient's time. This office posts a fee scale for not breaking an appt. without 24 hours notice but does not expect to pay for their breaking a contracted time period with their clients. I will be sending them my bill. I write this to have people consider how skewed our medical models are that doctors actually have us convinced that we should spend half of our day to be seen for 10 minutes because they focus on their greed instead of customer service. It should be the opposite, Doctors should be fitting into our schedules. Think about this, it seems far-fetched but it isn't and if everyone joined in the opposition to outdated medical service models, doctors would have to change their service model to focus on the patients instead. Finally, I do not want to give any stars for having missed work to be inconvenienced by a doctor- yet again- and this survey should not make us leave one star-alas, it does though.
