Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: I vividly remember my childhood pediatrician with his long white coat, ever present stethoscope, and kind nature. His calming bedside manner was second to none. Another early influence growing up in Houston, Texas was seeing Dr Red Duke, a famous trauma surgeon at work. In the midst of a grueling trauma surgery residency, he exemplified the caring, dedication and knowledge necessary to heal his patients. These indelible memories, along with a genuine love for biology, shaped my desire to be a physician. What I want my patients to know about me: I describe myself as a genuine, caring and easy-going person. I will listen to you, I will respect you, and will not abandon you.
