Megan Bowen, DO, is a Board Certified General Surgeon who has operated on most organ systems of the body, but now focuses on breast cancer surgery. She practices with Alamo City Surgeons in San Antonio.
Dr. Bowen comes from a family of three generations who have provided military service to our country. After graduate school, she was commissioned in the United States Army and was chosen to participate in their Health Professions Scholarship Program to complete medical school. A continuing desire to maximize her potential to serve as a member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps as well as to give back to others who have sacrificed for their country led Dr. Bowen to seek a surgery internship and residency. Her time in the Army afforded her operating experience in challenging situations like Syria, as well as routine and acute care surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Prior to her military career, Dr. Bowen witnessed a modified radical mastectomy a surgical technician. It changed her life. “Here was a procedure that made a huge impact,” she says, “because it offered a cure: being able to repair the body through surgery as opposed to managing a chronic illness with medications. This is what drew me, and still does.” She now specializes in the treatment of breast cancer, laparoscopic and advanced laparoscopic, robotic and acute care surgery. Her approach is both holistic and individualized, providing continuity of care with compassion and competence to ensure outstanding clinical outcomes.
At Alamo City Surgeons, Dr. Bowen joins a growing practice of military and civilian surgeons who share her passion for finding and applying cutting-edge medical procedures that allow their patients to heal and to thrive. She sees patients at the Northeast location as well as at Methodist Hospital | Northeast.
