Services Overview
One of the most common misconceptions about podiatry is that we only cut nails and callouses. To become a podiatrist, one must go through 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of podiatry school and then postgraduate training from 1-3 years. We are trained as doctors of the feet. We can treat soft tissue and bone up to the ankle and soft tissue up to the knee. Some of the most common issues we treat are;
1) bunions 2) hammer toes 3) diabetes 4) hypertension 5) gout 6) shin splints 7) plantar fasciitis 8) heel spurs 9) ankle sprains 10) painful corns and callouses 11) fungal infections of the skin and nails 12) excessive perspiration 13) warts
What most people do not understand about the feet is that they are the foundation of the body. If your feet do not work properly the rest of your body will follow. The example I use is the leaning tower of Pisa, since the foundation is sandy the whole building has been affected and leans. The same is for the human body. If the feet do not function correctly, every other joint does not function correctly. Since only 2% of the world population functions correctly the majority of the world is out of alignment in one way or another. A 5 degree change in the function of the foot, affect the ankle, knee, hips, lower back, spine, shoulders, neck and head, leading to a 1 degree change at the neck. This is why it is very important to take care of the feet.
