Dr. Mark Thel graduated with Distinction from the University of Virginia and cum laude from Georgetown University School of Medicine. At Georgetown, he was president of the Honor Medical Society Alpha Omega Alpha. He served his internship, internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and interventional training at Duke where he was also the Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine. He received the Duke Medical School Davison Society teaching award in 1996.
Dr. Thel has published more than 25 papers focusing on clinical trials in interventional cardiology. Dr. Thel participated in the United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship Program and left the Navy in 2000 as a Commander. His duty stations included General Medical Officer for Carrier Air Group Five in Atsugi, Japan, and staff cardiologist at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Thel is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
