Samuel Sultan, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Transplantation Surgery) at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Assistant Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Board certified in surgery, he specializes in kidney, pancreas, and liver transplantation, and laparoscopic donor nephrectomies. His clinical interests also include kidney auto-transplants, islet cell transplantation and dialysis access surgery. Dr. Sultan is actively involved in clinical research, and he enjoys teaching residents and medical students. He has received several awards, including the Distinguished Housestaff Award for his work on quality improvement projects. His research interests include the predictive value of the biochemical profile at the time of organ reperfusion, the use of organs from donors with hepatitis C, the resolution of donors with acute kidney injury, and beta-cell replacement therapy, using both pancreas and islet-cell transplants. Dr. Sultan is an active member of several medical societies, including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
