Dr. Randy Longman received his undergraduate degree from Yale University where he graduated summa cum laude. He was simultaneously awarded a Master of Science for his biochemistry research. He received his medical doctorate from Cornell Medical College and his Ph.D. in immunology from the Rockefeller University. He subsequently completed internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and fellowship training in Gastroenterology at the NewYork Presbyterian Hospital: Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He joined the Jill Roberts IBD Center at Weill Cornell in 2013 where he is an Assistant Professor of Medicine.Clinically, Dr. Longman focuses on the care of patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns' disease. His active research focuses on understanding the role for bacteria in inflammatory bowel disease. His work has been published in Nature, Science, Journal of Experimental Medicine, and Blood. For this work, he has received numerous awards as well as funding from both the American Gastroenterological Association and the National Institutes of Health. He has a particular interest in the care of IBD patients with joint pains and serves as a co-investigator on research studies to better understand the underlying cause.
