Amanda Shafton cares for patients during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. She specializes in caring for the LGBTQ population and patients with intellectual and physical special needs. As a certified nurse-midwife, she offers a holistic and personal approach to childbirth and health care, collaborating with physicians as needed.
Offering same-day appointments, Amanda provides physical exams for patients ages 14 and older, as well as contraceptive services, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, and prescription medication.
Dr. Shafton earned her doctor of nursing practice degree from Johns Hopkins University. She completed a midwifery fellowship at The Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health in Pittsburgh and has extensive experience with out-of-hospital birth.
She is committed to anti-racism work both personally and professionally and has focused her research on implicit bias and racism and how providers can better care for Black patients and families. Dr. Shafton is president of the Pennsylvania Affiliate of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She sees patients at Jefferson Hospital.
