Dr Jayes was trained at Harvard Medical School with his internship and residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and New England Medical Center in Boston. His exposure to the crush of patients lacking basic primary care in upper Manhattan started a career caring for and teaching about the importance of comprehensive primary care. Dr Jayes led primary care teams at GW in his early years while providing palliative end-of-life care for patients in the early AIDS epidemic. This experience led to an interest into the care of the frail elderly and other severely ill patients and he became Board Certified in Geriatrics as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
