While Dr. Bendewald's practice focuses in bariatric surgery, he is also experienced in performing surgeries related to a wide variety of conditions ¬- gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), paraesophageal (hiatal) hernia, diaphragmatic hernia, inguinal and ventral/incisional hernia, achalasia, gallbladder disease and diverticulitis. He also performs enterra and gastroparesis along with surgeries to treat both colon and gastric cancer.

He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Minnesota and earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota.
