About Dr. Buck
For Dr. Gregory E. Buck, getting to know his patients is step one in providing excellent patient care. “It has always been my goal to listen to each patient,” he says. “My patients have taught me to be humble and always think of another person’s perspective.” Through his more than 28 years as a Board Certified, licensed practitioner, Dr. Buck has found that much of what needs attention can be determined by what a patient tells him, directly or indirectly. “My philosophy is to get to know the patient and treat him/her wholly and to help everyone achieve their health care goals in the best way possible.”
As a family physician, Dr. Buck sees patients with a broad range of medical issues – such as diabetes, blood pressure management, infections, wounds, respiratory issues and much more. He gets to know not just individuals, but whole families, developing long-term relationships and ultimately helping patients build healthier lives.
Dr. Buck studied at the Indiana University School of Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Indiana State Medical Association. For more than 20 years, he has taught medical students, nurse practitioners and residents about family medicine in a clinical setting. Dr. Buck chose Beacon because of his familiarity with the organization. “My father was an admitting physician [at Memorial] for almost 40 years. I even completed my residency program [there],” he said. “When the opportunity arose for me to join the Beacon team, I felt very welcomed and I look forward to continuing my career at Beacon.”
In his own words…
Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My dad has been the most influential person in my life.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked at McDonald’s in Roseland. I remember we had a power outage and had to take orders by hand. I realize now how reliant we were on technology, even then.
What is your favorite food? Movie? Food: I really enjoy my wife’s peach pie! Movie: I’m a Star Wars fan!
What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? I was always good at Math, but English/Language Arts was a real challenge!
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased), who would it be and why? I would want to talk to my grandfather who passed away when I was in my mid-twenties. I think he had so much wisdom to pass along.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I just love spending time with my daughters and grandchildren! I also love to tinker in my garage and my favorite pass times are water sports, like sailing and skiing.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I got in the ring with a bull in Mexico and it picked me up and took me across the arena!
