Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: I didn't always know I wanted a career in medicine, but I loved science. After working in another field for over a decade, I realized I wanted a career where I could make a difference. As a plumber's daughter, I thought I might become a surgeon because I enjoy working with my hands, but during medical school I found a connection to people living with cancer and completed my training in oncology/hematology. What I want my patients to know about me: There can be a lot of waiting in cancer care - waiting for test results, waiting for insurance approvals. I know how impatient I am to have these answers, so I can only imagine how stressful it is to be the patient.
