Andrew Vanderlofske, NP is a member of Summit Health’s Primary Care team. Andrew is a board-certified nurse practitioner with 20 years as a critical care nurse and seven years as a nurse practitioner in Primary Care. He has acquired strengths at practicing evidence-based guidelines in clinical practice and gained extensive knowledge as a hands-on preceptor in clinical training.
Mr. Vanderlofske’s past experience was as a Critical Care Registered Nurse in the areas of electrophysiology, cardiac surgical step-down and operating room units. For the last six years, he has worked in hematology/oncology and primary care.
He originally pursued a career in health care after enlisting in the military and joining the Navy Medical Corp at the age of 18. As a hospital corpsman, he became certified as an emergency medical technician and has been in health care since 1979.
“Caring for patients is based on good communication. Patients who understand what you are doing for them feel better,” says Mr. Vanderlofske. “What I enjoy the most is helping people and being concerned for their welfare and health. The by-product of caring for and helping other people produces a sense of well-being and knowing that what I am doing really matters.”
When not working, he is passionate about the environment and is an avid fisherman who spends as much time as possible fishing for local species in Long Island waters and surrounding states.
