He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. He completed a general surgery internship at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York, followed by a general surgery residency at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He completed a two-year research fellowship in thoracic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and a cardiothoracic fellowship at UC Davis, followed by a fellowship in advanced and minimally invasive thoracic surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Mahtabifard provides his patients with the most advanced and effective treatments. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals. He also has made presentations at numerous meetings, including those sponsored by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. He is co-editor of the medical textbook, Atlas of Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery (VATS), for which he has written several chapters.
