Lee is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society. He has authored over 100 chapters and articles on minimally invasive spine surgery. Lee earned his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He completed an orthopaedic residency at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, followed by a spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
