Studies have shown that once a person suffers a fracture, they are five times more likely to experience another. At Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute’s Bone Health Program, we want to reduce that risk by using a team approach to prevent and treat fractures, specifically those due to bone loss.
Our team is made up of specialists from orthopedics, rehabilitation and nutrition who work together to develop customized plans to improve bone health and ensure you can maintain an active lifestyle without fear of suffering a fracture.
Patients who qualify include those who:
-Had a bone fracture (especially of the hip, shoulder, pelvis, spine and wrist)
-Received a prior diagnosis of low bone mass/density
-Have a family history of bone loss or fractures
Our services
-Physical exam to review any recent fractures and medical history
-Imaging studies, such as a DEXA scan, to understand current bone density
-Lab tests to help determine underlying cause of bone loss
-Rehabilitation and fall prevention to correct imbalance and stability issues
-Nutrition services to help incorporate bone-building foods into your diet
-Medications may be prescribed to help build new bone and decrease chance of future fractures
