Dr Spechler has treated, researched and published extensively on diseases of the esophagus, including gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, and esophageal motility disorders such as achalasia. Dr Spechler is chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and co-director of the Center for Esophageal Diseases at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health. Prior to his arrival at Baylor Scott & White, Dr Spechler had served as a professor of medicine and holder of the Berta M and Cecil O Patterson Chair in Gastroenterology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
