Nicola first became interested in the field of pediatric hematology/oncology while serving as a teen volunteer at Kosair Children’s Hospital in 1993 along with experiences as a companion with Camp Quality. This experience led her to pursue an undergraduate degree in nursing at Bellarmine University, later becoming a staff nurse on the pediatric hematology/oncology floor in 1999.
In 2011 she completed her master’s degree as a family nurse practitioner at Northern Kentucky University and transitioned to the role of inpatient nurse practitioner. To gain additional experience in the field of oncology, she worked in the adult hematology/oncology setting with the Norton Cancer Institute from 2013-2016. She then transitioned back to the field of pediatric hematology/oncology in 2016 and continues to practice as an inpatient nurse practitioner on 7 West at Norton Children’s Hospital.
