I've always been a people person. I like to make a meaningful impact in people's lives, and there's no better reward than being of service to somebody and improving their quality of life. That?s one of many reasons why I chose to become a doctor. Internal medicine is a vast specialty. I get to see so many different kinds of cases, from bread-and-butter cases like pneumonia and more common diseases like hypertension and diabetes to really rare autoimmune diseases as well. You need to know how different systems are interconnected and how to navigate all those complexities. Internal medicine is intellectually stimulating. That?s why I like it. I want my patients to know that they?re at the center of their health care decisions and I'm there to support them in through their journey, and that whatever decisions we make we?ll do together. I want them to actively participate in their own health care.
