With almost 30 years of experience in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, Dr Bender came to Samaritan through our partnership with Stanford Health Care. He also serves as a clinical associate professor in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at Stanford University. After earning his medical degree at Wayne State University, Dr Bender completed general surgery training at the University of Colorado before spending a year in Edinburgh, Scotland, as a registrar (resident) in thoracic surgery at the Royal Infirmary. He returned to the United States for formal cardiothoracic surgery training at the University of Chicago and then joined the faculty of the University of Texas in Dallas before going into private practice.
