Specifically, students learn the role dietary significance of disaccharides, cholesterol, digestion and absorption, metabolism and enzymes.

Students must be able to demonstrate competence in the anabolism and catabolism of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, antioxidant systems and integration of the endocrine systems. Both a written and practical examination are required for the DCBCN. In order to maintain this certification, chiropractors must complete a minimum of 16 classroom hours of continuing education in nutrition each calendar year.
