An immunologist is a research scientist or practicing specialist who studies, analyzes and/or treats disease processes that involve the immune system. Immunologists are particularly interested in diseases that affect natural immunity. These include such diseases as allergies, sinus inflammation, pneumonia, and abscesses that occur repeatedly even with treatment.
Education and Training: An immunologist must have a Ph.D. or an M.D., at least two to three years of training in an accredited program and must pass an examination given by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. There are several career opportunities that an immunologist may choose including scientific research, physician, pediatrician, and college professor.
