In this week’s episode of Your Best Life, Karl interviews Hal Elrod, who is the number one, bestselling author of Miracle Morning. Hal shares how you can change every area of your life by simply changing the way you wake up in the morning, even if you are not a morning person! Karl and Hal discuss the Five Minute Rule, success, the six lifesavers, and how to know what you want.
Main Questions Asked:
- Talk about the six lifesavers.
- How do you get people off dead-center when they don’t know what they want?
- What one principal in all of this is closest to your heart?
Key Lessons Learned:
The 5-Minute Rule
- If something is out of your control and you can’t change it, accept it and move on.
- The 5-minute rule is all about mindset and allows us to complain and feel the emotions when facing adversity, but prompts us to move on.
- Focus on what is in your control and how can you change it.
- The one right we all have is the right to decide.
Success
- On a scale of 1-10, we all want to be a 10 in health, happiness, finances, love, and relationships.
- Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become. – Jim Rohn
The Miracle Morning
- It's not about waking up early but about waking up better.
- Dedicate the first part of your day (30-60 minutes) to becoming the person you need to be.

- Design your self-talk
- Write it out and read it.
-- Steps to Affirmations
- What do you want?
- What is your ideal outcome you are committed to creating?
- Why is it important?
- What specifically must you do to generate the ideal outcome? This is the action.
- When specifically will you commit to doing those things?
- Visualization
- Exercise
-
- At least 60 seconds of exercise in the morning such as jumping jacks to get the blood flowing and to release endorphins.
- Reading
- Scribing
-
- Write in your journal every morning and night using the Five Minute Journal.
Knowing What You Want
- Everyone knows what they want when the right questions are asked.
- A good way to start is by removing limitations. E.g. “If there were no limitations, what would you like your life to be like?”
- It's important to go through the categories individually, such as finances.
- We often only look at the economics and not what the actual days would look like.
- What don’t you want, and do the opposite.
The Three Questions
- What do I not like doing?
- How can I get rid of these completely? or prayer
- Can I automate these or delegate these?
- What do I not love doing?
- At what level do I want to continue doing those things?
- This doesn’t mean I want to get rid of them, but might want to minimize them.
- What do I love doing?
- As a society, we think that we have to do more.
- When you shift your focus from doing more to becoming more, that is the secret to achieving more often by doing less.
- What you’re doing determines who you’re becoming.
