Health Tip: Getting a Massage?

(HealthDay News) -- While massage therapy can help ease various aches and pains, it's not appropriate for everyone.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine offers this advice:

  • Massage therapy may not be appropriate for all pregnant women. Speak with your doctor if you are pregnant before getting a massage.
  • Anyone taking a blood-thinning medication or having a bleeding disorder should avoid forceful or deep tissue massage.
  • Don't perform massage on any skin wound.
  • Anyone with cancer should speak to a doctor before having massage therapy on or near the affected area.
