4 cups water
1 1/4 cups pinhead oatmeal
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 pound ground beef
1 small (or 1/2 large) onion, sliced
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon salt
Pinch of black pepper
Boil the water in a large pot. Add the salt, pepper, and oatmeal, and cook for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
In a separate bowl, combine the pork, beef, onion, and bay leaves. Add the meat mixture to the cooked oats and stir well.
Cook for one hour, stirring frequently. Remove the pot from heat, discard bay leaves, and transfer to bread pans for overnight refrigeration.
When ready to serve, cut the goetta into slices approximately 1/2 inch thick and fry in a frying pan until crispy.
