I called in advance to get an estimate for braces for my child. I was told it would be "free" since we were not getting x-rays or impressions. This dentist is contracted with my insurance. Upon arriving 15 minutes early, I completed the necessary paperwork 5 minutes before the appointment time. There was one other person in the waiting room. I could hear loud laughing and talking while we waited 15 minutes past the appointment time. When we went back to consult with the dentist, I found that he and his assistants were the ones visiting and laughing and there was no patient in sight. We went only for an estimate for ortho. He proceeded to tell us that my child had two cavities. This was a service I had not requested. He said that without a full ortho workup (x-rays & impressions) he couldn't give me more than a rough estimate of $4800. He then walked out. The consultation took less than 3 minutes. I went back to question the office staff about contract rate through my insurance comany. I was still told it would be $4800 although my insurance rate was $3400. The receptionist was adamant it would be $4800. We left without scheduling any future appointments. This "free" appointment ended up being billed to my insurance at a cost of $60. The insurance has told me my responsibility is $30 and that it was billed like my child had an emergency toothache...not as an estimate for ortho. There is no such code for that. The dentist's office was closed on Friday so I called them when they opened on Monday. The receptionist called me back and said the appointment was only "free" because I had insurance. When I told her I was going to be responsible for $30, her response was that most insurances cover that $30, but they would not reduce it to free. To say the least, I will not be going back to this dentist in the future. I would not recommend them to anyone and get all estimates...even "free" estimates in writing before any services are rendered.

I usually have to wait on hold for quite a while, but not as long as some other places
