I have no idea how someone with a Psyd could be so poorly trained in the counseling of a client. Most of the members of my family are poor in handling of the emotions of a child in their most influential years. I was shocked to work with Mary Ellen Bratu and find out someone with years of education and training in the field of psychology could be even worse. Important feelings, and emotions were just responded to with comments like, "You just need to forget about this." It's the same or similar response to a family member saying, "That's it. It's over! You are not allowed to talk about this anymore. She treats her patients like a verbally abusive parent.
I had worked with her at a very difficult time in my life. She created more problems, and caused lower self esteem in me. She would tell me in session, I have a right to be angry when things were not going well. She is very bad at having her clients deal with that anger. I have learned to really hate psychologists because of my experience with her.
Mary Ellen Bratu is a very difficult therapist to deal with. Insolent, brash, and unhelpful, she lacks patience with her clients. She will insist she knows what is best for you, even though those decisons cause a great deal of pain. Anger towards friends and family are accepted. Once anger is directed towards her, she gets defensive, lies about things she said, and tries to change the subject. Once your sessions are over, she believes in a complete closed door policy , meaning she will never want to talk, write, or hear from you. All this will lead you to understand, she is not invested in your success, and does not under any circumstance care about you. Her fees are high, so I suggest if you take the money you would have spent on her, place it in a briefcase, go to the center of your town, open the briefcase, and let it blow away in the breeze. Your money is better off, trust me!
They never take that extra step to make me feel special. I haven't ever felt that they care enough to get to know me and that I'm almost an irritation. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back and see them again. They were horrible. I have never seen a coupon for this provider, nor do they ever have specials or promotions going on. I don't think they like to help people save money. This provider has no helpful information available online, apart from their address and phone number. They just have a basic listings page.
I came to this therapist seeking help for depression and career guidance. I have to give a poor rating because, after a year of therapy with Mary Ellen Bratu, I was actualy much worse off than when I had started. This therapist will lie to you when discussing and issue she does not want to deal with. She relies on a patients lack of knowledge of how therapy works. Mary Ellen Bratu keeps a barrier between her emotions to the point that she does not get emotionally involved with her clients progress. Despite her high fees, she will show no interest in ever hearing from you ever again once your sessions are over. All in all, a very poor therapist and I would strongly discourage anyone from taking even one session with her.
