I was angry during my appointment. Dr. Schroeder prescribed an antibiotic in the SAME family as an antibiotic I reacted to many years ago. I took the prescribed medicine, trusting her judgement - AND the fact that we went over what meds I was allergic to...I told her to stay away from the "mycin" family and I should be okay. She prescribed clarithromycin, and it resulted in my tongue/throat horribly irritated, feeling as if it had been badly burned and blistered. I lost my voice for almost two weeks; It has now been 3 weeks since I started reacting to this med and my throat and tongue are still irritated, making it difficult to eat. When I told her what happened, she said, "Oops, sorry"..."I thought it just made you itch".. In my records it plainly says I have a reaction to Erthromycin. If you look up Clarithromycin - it says quite clearly - DO NOT GIVE IF YOU REACTED TO ERTHROMYCIN. I have lost all trust in this doctor and will not go back nor recommend her. She also has a very clinical attitude, not much understanding or compassion. ...and this is the straw that broke the camel's back after seeing her for a year. Too bad, she was really nice and the staff in the office were exceedingly helpful and always pleasant. I will miss them.
