We went to this Doctor because we believed all the "hype" about how "wonderful" he was. He promised my husband that he could fix his herniated disk and be in and out of the hospital the same day. He went on to further tell my husband that he could jump a plane the next day. He confirmed this promise the day of the surgery. My husband woke up from surgery to find he was paralyzed from the waist down. He was admitted at UPMC St. Margaret's hospital to begin extensive tests. Dr. Werrie's came up to our room and apologized profusely. He went so far as to write in the medical chart that he believed HIS Physician Assistant was responsible for the paralysis. They began to call in all these specialist into the room. We were so vulnerable to be believe that they were trying to help us. We thought they were trying to help my husband walk again. Instead they began to do a series of tests to create a "cover" why my husband couldn't walk. They began to insinuate that it was his fault that he couldn't walk. My husband left the hospital in a wheelchair after a week in the hospital suffering untold "horror". They performed awful and painful tests to "cover thier tracks" and gave what I would consider substandard care. I will post pictures of my husband on youtube with a walker trying to walk. My husband has regained the use of his legs after many sessions of Physical Therapy. He still suffers from horrible nerve damage and will never be the same. Dr. Werrie's denies any wrongdoing and promises that we will never see any compensation from him. As a matter of fact, our insurance paid his bill for the surgery that paralyzed him and the tests for him to build a defense. I am a nurse and I would implore you to consider our story before you go see this Doctor. My husband has suffered so much from this experience. I have no way to make it better for him except to write about our experience and hope to spare others from "walking down the same road". Even if he does have positive outcomes of other surgeries, ask yourself if this is the kind of doctor you want to support. Is this the kind of doctor you want to treat your loved one? what if you are the next one that gets an "oops, I'm sorry". I welcome any email. I would be glad to share more details that are too tedious to write.
