Doctor Kaplan failed to diagnose a damaged retina after I sought his help for an eye injury. Over the next couple years, the problem worsened until finally visiting another eye doctor, the detached retina was discovered and emergency corrective surgery was performed immediately. Two more surgeries were required over the next eighteen months for which I paid nearly twenty five thousand dollars out of my own pocket, mostly borrowed funds; I had no insurance. Kaplan subsequently refused to take responsibility for his error and would not even return my phone calls. Finally he hired a lawyer to threaten me when i asked him politely, in a letter, to help out with my medical bills which were all a result of his failing to diagnose (on two separate occasions) the initial retina damage. I did not want to bring a lawsuit; all I wanted was reimbursement for my expenses.
New Jersey databases show two prior malpractice lawsuits against Kaplan in the past five years alone; before that, we do not know. This guy has blood on his hands with zero remorse. Clearly, I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.
