My well-meaning friend, after hearing of the horrific abuse I was suffering at home from both a narcissistic and cruel mother and father, looked up places to go live that "help with family problems". Being a naïve 17-year-old girl, I agreed to go to "Charter Pacific Hospital for "just a consultation" in 1987 when the arrogant and heartless Dr. Portanova worked there. II have Never ever tried to hurt myself or anyone else, but with eyes wide, greedy for my parents' insurance money, Portanova talked my equally arrogant heartless parents into locking me up there for months, until their insurance money ran out. I never belonged on this horrific locked unit with windows on the bedroom doors where the staff could look in at you at all times., Though I had never committed a crime, the other adolescents and me could only go outside into a fenced un square area of grass for 15 minutes a day. It was horrible to be so isolated and could only make one phone call a day though I had never committed a crime or done any drugs in my life. Dr. Portanova was the medical director there and when she came into my room to "do therapy" I guess it was, it didn't feel like she cared about helping me at all, I asked her what she thinks my "diagnosis was" and she literally said "I don't know and said something else then proudly walked out. I just felt humiliated and angry that my freedom was taken away like that, but she refused to release me though I respectfully asked many times for months, and my friend who had suggested thus place from just looking them up in the phone book, felt so bad for what happened to me there that she and her mom tried to get Portanova to let me live with them. My friend was an aerobics teacher, and her mom was a real-estate agent, but Jay-jo Portanova refused to care or help. All she cared about was carving out her career and walking arrogantly around there like a god or something. This may seem silly, that I am reporting this so many years later, but I just needed to tell the truth for the sake of my inner child, or "inner teen" who remembers these atrocities like it was yesterday. Make No Mistake. This woman Jaye-jo Portanova is ALL ABOUT JAY-JOE AND WHATEVER MONEY SHE CAN EXTRACT. This is not a humble, caring, compassionate woman. She is all about status and doing whatever the hell she has to do, to get it., My 17-year-old" self got no voice, but my adult self finally has that voce with which I will honor myself by speaking of what happened. Hang on to your money and please seek out a therapist with more character than this. Bless you!!

Really made a difference! Dr. Portanova was able to help me move past my angry and confusion. This made it easier for me to make good choices for myself and my two teenage boys.

Dr. Portanova really knows her stuff. She was able to help me using her extensive background of knowledge and training. I appreciated her willingness to listen to my concerns and take me seriously instead of just plying me with pills. I really wanted to be involved in my own treatment and to understand what's going on, and she was very patient with that. It wasn't all about her doctor ego. Overall a great experience and I recommend her to anyone who asks.

They're very flexible with their appointment times. They made sure every question I had was answered thoroughly, I always felt comfortable. I recommend her for any issues involving your children and custody. She is an effective and compassionate psychiatrist.

They went out of their way to make me feel special and respected, and were very sympathetic to my situation. I've never seen more kindness and empathy anywhere else. They were by far one of the best I've ever seen in their field. As soon as I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They went out of their way to make me feel special and appreciated. I'm always amazed at how considerate and concerned they are for my well-being. Their advice is always wonderful and completely unbiased.
