Good doctor who is helpful and knowledgeable; however the office staff in La Jolla are unprofessional and under trained.
Office personnel refused to schedule an appointment, so I can't get my prescriptions refilled. They don't understand how insurance works and have unnecessary red tape to mask their lack of knowledge. They should have just apologized and listened while I finished sentences rather than interrupt repeatedly.
After seeing him for years, I will look elsewhere since he can't be reached for scheduling.

They would never do that! Their full attention is always on me.
Does this psychiatrist always take that extra step to make you feel special?
Absolutely, they always make me feel like I'm their only client.
Was this psychiatrist's office easy to locate?
Absolutely! It couldn't have been easier!
Did this psychiatrist ever condone negative behavior?
Not at all. They discouraged negative behaviors and suggested helpful solutions

Odd to have a review draft made up for me. I think Dr. Mawhinney is a fine doctor for my needs, and is the same office with my therapist so that's a definite plus. He's a bit old school, but still listens and makes recommendations based on what you tell him about your history and needs. Much better to go to him or any good psychiatrist than trying to rely on your GP doctor for psychiatric medications.

Dr. Mawhinney was voted best psychiatrist in San Diego. He is awesome! I have a complicated medical history and a previous drug addiction so we have to be careful of my meds. He is extremely knowledgable about addictions and eating disorders as well as helped me get stable on my meds and I have been doing well for over two years now. Thanks, Dr. Mawhinney!!

This Dr is the worst professional I have ever worked with in my entire life. Do not go to him. He has caused our son all kinds of emotional problems and mis-diagnosed him and gave him meds that left him in the hospital. He is arrogant, doesn't listen, doesn't care and just wants his check. Just because he has the qualifications doesn't mean he is capable of making good choices for you. Keep away from this doctor.

I'm not sure who left these reviews, but this psychiatrist is best left in his little world.

His attitude was god awful. In the more than four decades I have been treated for ADHD, I have never encountered a psychiatrist who simply stated, Iwill only prescribed a time-release form of Ritalin, regardless of how you been treated and your past experience with a time-release medication.

Given his 'my way or the highway' postulating, commonly referred to as a 'recalcitrant' my recommendation is let this quack continue to reside in his little world.

Putting my quips aside, your better off finding a shrink that is more sensitive to your personal needs.

Oh, despite having no patients before me and arriving ten minutes early, he left me waiting for than 15 minutes.

It was easy to get the appointment time that worked for my schedule. Their office was well organized and clean. I could tell they took a lot of time making sure it was presentable. Every time I come here they always remember me by name and greet me as soon as I walk in the door, even if it's been months since my last appointment. I loved how quickly I was able to get in to see them. I scheduled my appointment and they were able to fit me in right away. Terri at the front desk is great.
