I was mistreated at this office. They tried to overcharge me and were extremely rude. The staff lied to me, made me feel pressured, hung up on me, and threatened me. I would never visit them again. To make matters worse, they wanted to charge me over $20 to get the x-rays I brought in from a previous dentist. I guess they were mad they lost another patient, but what do they expect when they treat people so badly?

I don't know how I found this kook, but if you have an enemy looking for a dentist...recommend this guy. The staff is extremely aggressive and rude. One Friday, I was walking out the door to get to work when my phone rang. It was Dr. Powell's office. I told the woman on the other line that I was rushing out the door and that I would call her back. One would think I insisted she go jump off a cliff! She acted like I was inconveniencing her! When I emphasized my need to end the call, she huffed and puffed. I get a call from the office about twice a month asking when I'll be back in and if I have any problems. The last tooth I had "fixed" there has to be repaired by another dentist. Aside from the lack of professionalism and poor quality of work, Dr. Powell himself is very awkward. I felt uncomfortable both times I sat in the chair.

MO: Scaring patients into thinking they need unnecessary dental work so can get as much money as possible, using the cheapest materials, and doing as much work as possible.

UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES: I was 34 when he told me that I needed all new caps on my upper and lower front teeth... I had never had a cavity in any of the teeth he wanted to replace. He replaced the TOP FRONT 6 teeth after X-rays somewhere else, found out I didn't need it at all and it was unnecessary. He told me that I would lose my teeth if I did not have them capped because I had "weak teeth".

Concerning the work he DID do:
The temporary he made me INFECTED MY GUMS because it didn't fit & had put it in too tight. When I tried to call him over the weekend w/ my concerns (temp was falling out) ... he would not return my calls. His emergency contact was his office voicemail directing me to another dentist. When I found an alternate number and left a message, his wife called me and fussed me out for disturbing his weekend.
From the start he promised Porcelain crowns but PREPPED them for Metal ones...NOT the material he promised. Another dentist had to re-prep them for the Porcelain crowns.

REFUSAL TO REFUND MONEY OF PROCEDURES NOT DONE: I paid him over $13,000 for all procedures in advance per Care Credit. He only did work on my upper teeth, he kept the money that was to be used for the work on my bottom teeth. Two dentists said NONE of the recommended cap work on my upper or bottom teeth were needed. When confronted w/ this information he offered to refund my money at a later time. He never has and when after several attempts of asking him to return it, he said would not. And he hasn't.

UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES:
If you don't have the money up front, he encourages you to use Care Credit, EXCEPT instead of using it as a line of credit (as he's supposed to do) he takes the FULL credit line and then refuses to return any left over credit to your credit line. This is very sneaky. This move takes him out of the liability loop, allows him to have all the money Up Front whether he does the work or not.... all while you are stuck paying interest and dealing with a credit card company.

He destroyed my smile and my teeth. I pray every single day that this man won't do the same thing to someone else. Please don't give him the opportunity.
