Sorry but he just sits behind his desk and doesn't help me at all. I just need the anti-depressants, they help with my chronic pain.

... He is certainly not THE worst psychiatrist i have had... but i have only had two... I've been 'stuck' with him and I agree with some of the comments about how he "talks down" to you, or is condescending... but i also agree with the others saying he's "one of the best" or that he's a great 'pharmacologist'...

His people skills are lacking... i always have high anxiety when i know i have an appointment with him coming up... i only have 10-20 min sessions (if i'm lucky) and yet get charged for a full session.

Any time i talk about my "issues" and he just repeats what i have said, he charges more just for that little redundant input that offered little to no help whatsoever.

I'm in the midst of changing psychiatrist (which is why i am here, as i am trying to look them up). I would highly recommend him to anyone who know PRECISELY knows what they want; to anyone who can PRECISELY express their thoughts into a very coherent and empirical manner; to anyone who just wants to provide him with symptoms and wants medications for said symptoms (which can apply to one or both of the mentioned above).

I would NOT recommend him to anyone looking for someone who knows about the medications and also can help you with any problems you are having without having someone on a "high horse" telling you that you need to provide exact details and to expect you to know every single detail about previous sessions and when things took place... Extremely empirical... and i have only talked to him about one of a hand full of issues i am struggling with, but i need someone who can help me along with both medication and therapy... not just prescribe me medications to "patch" up any symptoms that pop up instead of thinking of alternatives... or even attempting to collaborate with you on coming up with a plan. He expects you to know everything and for you do articulate everything while he just jots it down and tells you little to nothing.

Dr. Sonnenschein is very matter of fact and clear with detail related to patient care. I have found him to be a great clinician. He's been educational and interactive with my medications. I am very pleased with his care.

I would agree that Dr. Sonnenschien does too much talking and not enough listening, but he is responsive to urgent requests and has been able to work with me to keep my bipolar disorder in check, so I think he is a very good psychopharmacologist.

Everyone is talking about Dr. Sonnenschein having a condescending manner, but he's actually just more clinical & matter-of-fact. Dr S is one of the best in KC & goes out of his way to make sure patients understand their disorders so they can deal with them more effectively. Just because he's explaining something to you, doesn't mean he's being condescending, he's just trying to make sure you understand it! It's very hard to deal with a mental disorder if you have no knowledge about it whatsoever...that's what a good doctor should do is explain to you your condition so you can learn to cope with it!

The doctor has a very condescending manner. In the words of my 14 year old, he talks to me like I'm stupid. As a parent participating in her session, I found him to be patronizing and showed no people skills. He is especially bad for a teen or young adult because he has a way of making them feel worse about themselves by treating them with so little respect. The doctor's attitude could also convey that depression is something to be ashamed of. Someone is not silly, stupid or defective because they suffer from depression. It is also a lot of money to pay to feel harassed for thirty minutes. I hope the other teen who had a similar review can change doctors, no one should be treated this way when they are trying to get help.

When comparing them to others in their field, I would say they are by far the worst I have ever seen. I will never return. One of the first things I noticed about this business was how many different areas of the building were handicap-accessible. I have been to other places where I couldn't tell how someone in a wheelchair could even enter, but they really spent a lot of time to accommodate people with all different needs. They told me a little bit about my treatments' risks and benefits, but I still didn't feel like I knew as much as I wanted to know. I felt this doctor was critical, attacking & inconsiderate of all the dynamics that enter into a situation. Quick to judge. I took my son there several times, & after noticing time after time that my son looked as if he was in a chair being interrogated, I said enough. I would not recommend him to an enemy.

Dr. Sonnechein was very rude and condescending during our first two visits. He spoke down to me and my son, and did not like answering questions from either of us. I am now in the position of needing to get my son's medication refilled and have been avoiding going back because I anticipate it will be an unpleasant experience. I would love to simply switch providers but it takes so long to get in to see a psychiatrist I feel like I am stuck with the Dr for now. Overall, not a good experience.
