Dr Polakoff is smart and knowledgeable in his field, serious and professional. Eighteen years ago Dr Polakoff prescribed medication for me that changed my life. He also helped my daughter through a difficult few years as a teenager. I highly recommend him.

After 25 years, when I informed Dr. Polakoff I would be on medicare, he immediately said he did not accept Medicare patients, acted like he did not even know me ( he charges $300.00 for 45 minites ) and basically tried to fire me! Said I could go to another doctor. He recommended a REAL quack, most awful experience. All he is interested in is $$$. Real hypocrite. I would only see him a few times a year. He would spend the whole time looking at the clock. Not very helpful. I would never recommend him.

my mother saw dr polakoff for over a decade- despite me saying he was doing her no good. in fact, my mother got worse under his negligant care. the pill cocktail never worked and mom, in the end, after suffering for 15 years, jumped off a bridge, ending her life because under dr. polakoff's unattentive, cold eye she suffered and found no peace. dr. polakoff played an instrumental role in ending my mother's life and, now, i cant help but blame him for the suffering my family is now enduring. do not pay attention to his washintonian reviews. i actually found him that way. i promise you he provided my mother with no comfort or solace. he was remote and distant and never checked in. he said after she died he'd wished she would see him more and on is forced to wonder: is it that hard for YOU to check in with your patient. he claimed to put her in talk therapy, which never happened. a family friend and i got her to see one last year and that helped, but he had no clue. i called him a month before she died to let him know she was suffering, as far as i could tell nothing changed. he, make no mistake, is responsible for my mother's untimely and tragic death because he never gave a damn. you know what bad care is when you see it and i saw it for years with mom and him. the end result was teh worst one possible. he is responsible, no matter how he side steps it. im happy to field questions about him.

I would definitely recommend him. I think anyone needing any anxiety or depression medication would benefit from seeing him. He is really great about taking his time with me, and he doesn't mind answering my questions. He listens to every question or concern I may have. I have a rather complicated medical prescription regime, and Dr. Polakoff made an effort to adjust them until we got a good result. He's definitely an expert.
