My friend's daughter got her braces here, so I visited Dr. DeMarsche based my friend's recommendation. My experience was less favorable, however. With orthodontics, I recommend shopping around...
Prior to seeing Dr. DeMarsche, our dentist/orthodontist had recommended we pull several of my daughter's baby teeth out (because they weren't coming in 'fast enough') with a very strong sales pitch for why we should go with them for orthodontics. Turned off, I turned to Dr. DeMarsche, who said that was just a lot of "unnecessary dental work; come back in 6 months". We did... and when we did, she took x-rays, took molds of my daughter's teeth, and said she needed to extract EIGHT baby teeth bc they're not coming in fast enough. And I got the whole sales pitch for how urgent it is to start right away. Because she was the 2nd doctor to tell me this, and bc my friend had recommended her, I went with it and signed to start treatment. Then I realized I got sucked into her sales pitch... how would my daughter eat/look with 8 teeth missing?! I went to see ANOTHER recommended orthodontist (free consult) who said 8 extractions is NOT necessary; the baby teeth will come out on their own, we should start after she gets more adult teeth. During the coming months we had a family medical crisis AND my daughter's baby teeth fell out one by one on their own. At the onset of our medical crisis, which is just a few weeks after our first visit I called DeMarche's office and told them right away that we had a family medical emergency, I cannot make the payments, we need to stop. The office told me "Don't worry; your balance is 0; everything will be alright." Surprisingly, for the next several months, we received EOB's (explanation of benefit) from insurance showing that DeMarsche was getting paid for monthly office visits WE NEVER HAD. For braces we NEVER GOT. I called again and they insisted we're not being charged for anything, our balance is ZERO, don't worry. (meaning, your insurance is paying us, we won't bill you.) It was only after few more calls (months later) that they actually stopped charging and taking money out of OUR insurance (which has a lifetime limit). I called our insurance to report to them that they've been paying for services NOT RENDERED. The insurance co told me the doctor's office needs to resubmit claim adjustments and return the money for services NOT rendered. (which would be under $1000.) It took a few more months (with their NEW billing person) for Dr. DeMarsche's office to finally ADJUST their charges and agree keep money for ONLY the services rendered (records/x-rays from 1st visit) and return most of the money that was collected 'in error'. To the new billing person's credit, she admitted they should have stopped taking the payments after my FIRST phone call, not after several. She was the one to finally agree to correct the situation rather than just tell me "not to worry, your balance is zero" (while taking the money from our insurance).
I respect Dr. DeMarsche's education and the opinion of any happy clients she may have had, but I question the ethics of the practice - both in recommending what is best for the patient and in how they (mis)handled our billing & insurance.
I read another review (for their Phila office) that agreed that their visit w/Dr. DeMarsche seemed like a big sales pitch to them. It's too bad that some doctors seem to care more about making profit than the patient's best interest.
